Tsurunoyu Onsen is one of eight hot-spring baths which belong to Nyutou Onsenkyo located near the foot of Mt.Nyutou-san.

Tsurunoyu Onsen is the oldest hot-spring resort among Nyutou Onsenkyo. Its records are said to date back to Genroku, Edo period.

The house with thatched roofs, 'Honjin', is the oldest accomodation from Edo period.

Tsurunoyu Onsen derives its name from the fact that a local hunter saw a crane (“Tsuru” in Japanese) healing its wounds in a hot-spring.

The Honjin is designated a registered tangible cultural property.

Tsurunoyu Onsen has four baths; Shira-yu, Kuro-yu, Nakano-yu and Takino-yu, each with water with a different composition.

Indoor bath 'Kuro-yu'           'Kuro-yu' literally means 'black hot water' in Japanese.

Indoor bath 'Shiro-yu'           'Shiro-yu' literally means 'white hot water' in Japanese.
