World Heritage Shiretoko Goko Lakes (Hokkaido)

Shiretoko is the world heritage, located in eastern Hokkaido.

Shiretoko Goko,large and small five lakes are surrounded by virgin forest. This is the habitat of brown bears.

The five lakes are named Lake 1st, Lake 2nd, and on up to Lake 5th.

Lake 1st

No rivers flows into any lakes.  Subsoil water from the Shiretoko mountain range springs up in these lakes.

Lake 3rd  




Community of skunk cabbage, which is favorite food of brown bears.

Lake 4th    Background is the Shiretoko mountain range.
